After innumerable redesigns and months of waiting, our office move became a reality. This morning. Of course, I dressed up today--skirt, slinky V-neck top, heels. Not an outfit geared for box schlepping.
The move was supposed to happen Tuesday. But the movers showed up this morning and with the whole campus gearing up for HESTEC next week, we figured we better grab 'em while we could.
HESTEC = the Hispanic Engineering, Science & Technology week, complete with a star-studded lineup of politicians, CEOs, company presidents and vice presidents and entertainment. Nancy Pelosi is speaking. I'm all over THAT. More info here.
Anyway, I'm excited to have my own office after sitting at a corner desk in the back of the graduate office with little work or storage space. I finally have my own phone line and this means I will shortly have business cards--they were on hold until the move. Now I have to retrain everyone to send reports to my new location.
Since my office had the only extra network port, I get to live with the color printer; it blows warm air into an otherwise frigid space, so I'm OK with it.

Great news on the office -- and the conference with Pelosi! And what a nice perk that you get your own little 'heater.'
Yup, this is a fun place to work.
Oh, and the inappropriate footwear came in handy: I used my heels to pound nails into my DIY bookcase.
Was going to work out tonight at the new campus Wellness Center, but my aching feet vetoed that. They've proposed a long, hot, bubbly, scented bath tonight instead. Motion carried.
"A fun place to work."
That is SO DAMN AWESOME!!!
Your own office!! That's awesome. I hope they always make you feel so appreciated.
One of our former office mates from downstairs just came up for a visit and was eyeing my office. It's the least posh of the five areas, but it's nice and roomy. I miss having windows, though. Need some framed art in here--something to break up the beige.
Yeah, I'm having a good time here.
I've met some interesting people and there's always something happening on campus--conferences, free salsa classes, free food at various campus events, concerts, etc.
I'm thinking about doing the GLBT advocate training offered through the campus counseling center. I'd love to audition for one of the Summerstock plays, too. You know, in all my spare time.
Cool (literally!) on getting your own office!! Congrats.
on another note I was digging through photos to find a baby pic of Henry for school, and came across photos of your visit to Thailand - some fun ones of you and me and the shops in Bangkok's Chinatown - all I could keep thinking of was how I was pregnant (again) at that point and didn't even know it yet! good times.
It Didn't Really Sink In until Mike came to visit yesterday that I had my very own private office for the first time in my professional life.
I've always been a cube-dweller or a sub in someone else's classroom or working in a newsroom or tutoring center with people milling around. So having my own space is a new and wonderful thing.
H, I ran across Thailand pics too while sorting what I'd take with me if a hurricane came our way. All those toothsome Thai silks still call to me, as does the Thai restaurant in your old apartment complex. Mmmmm. LA Times Food section did an article about Thai regional cooking this week.
and the best thing about that restaurant was main dishes cost 60 baht, about $1.30. Its no wonder that Henry is my only child who loves curry, I ate so much of it at that restaurant while pregnant with him that its practically part of his DNA...
