Please, call me Project Effort Reporting Specialist

PERS for short. UTPA extended and I accepted the offer to work in Research Administration in the above mentioned role.

I will provide oversight and act as the main contact for time/effort reporting for faculty/others working on federally-funded grants, contracts, cooperative agreements and sponsored projects.

More simply, I keep track of, assist and train faculty how to keep track of their work/progress when they're on someone else's research dime.

Mom is the litmus test of how well I explain my job description. I think she kinda got it when I told her tonight, but I may have to reiterate. Or refine the description as I figure out what I do. Gotta love those new job learning curves during which you frequently feel like you're asking every stupid question there is. :)

I start April 16. They aren't sure where I'll sit permanently, but said it may be possible for me to do some work from home. I'm planning a little celebratory shopping to supplement the work wardrobe and maybe an outing for Thai food. Mmmmm.

Congrats, Ms PERS. Pray tell, can you clue an ignoramus in on what UTPA stands for? (I think I got the UT, but not the PA...)

You will rock that job. Have some thai for me. And when you have the urge to say 'no' to some cool clothing, say YES! as a nod to my spirit in the fitting room with you. ;-)

UTPA = University of Texas Pan American. Since it's close to the border, serves a large Hispanic population and specializes in international business, border studies, etc.

I guess they wanted the name to reflect more than the typical North American self-centeredness.

I'll have the red curry with shrimp and pineapple in your honor and I've already scoped out some wardrobe builders that I'm sure would get your thumbs up.

The challenge here: to dress professionally without sweating to death during the humid summer months. And balancing frigid indoor temps with muggy outdoor ones.

Good for you ME! I look forward to hearing more about your workplace antics, missing since JPL. I just may order myself something out of the new Eddie Bauer catalog and have some Pat Gee Mao Gai in your honor....

Hmm, strange. I tried to reload the page several times, but there is still no link to comments on your Easter post.

I was wondering if you found anything good at the antique place? :-)

Plus, your post made me LOL twice. Nice.

I don't know what's up with the comments on the Easter post.

The antique mall was pretty picked over. They've been going out of business since January and will wrap it up in May.

I overheard the workers saying they keep putting out new items from the warehouse. Some of the prices weren't all that discounted; the side table that interested me was $85--not clear whether it was one of the "small" items in the booth that was 50% off and I didn't care enough to ask.

The owners may reopen in a smaller space later on. Hope so--it was the only one stop shopping in town for antiques.

See, ME, I TOLD you you'd land this job. It was a no-brainer! And you're going to simply fabulous, darling, FAB-YOU-LOUS!!

Congrats, ME. You'll have to let me know how transitioning is for you so we can compare note.

xoxo

What does it say about me that I keep reading it as "Project Effing Report Specialist"?
