Star Struck

After an impromptu status meeting with the Provost this afternoon, my supervisor and I waited for the elevator to whisk us back to ground level.

When the doors slid open to admit us, I did a double take. There stood the president of UTPA. My supervisor greeted her and introduced me and explained I was the person keeping the time and effort process on track (with a 94% return rate as of this afternoon, thank you very much!)

The president smiled and said "Oh, I've heard about you!" My supervisor gushed about how well I've handled things so far, so I assume the president has heard good things.

I got all star struck at the notion that the university president had heard about little old me. My supervisor said my work would have visibility; I just didn't know it was that visible.

Hoping this means the outstanding 6% of the certifications will come back by tomorrow afternoon.

Sometimes it's sad, but a boost like that at work can really make a girl's day.

I'm SO glad things are going so well for you there!! :-)

Wait, it gets better. The provost BCCd me on his email to the president saying that hiring me was really paying off.

My supervisor replied to some of the email traffic and thanked me for all the hard work and said how pleased she is with my accomplishments over the past 6 weeks.

And today, I chased down all but two of the outstanding certifications, putting us at 99.5% returns. Yay!

I also did some groovy networking at a federal grants workshop, connecting with a recent convert in our ward who ran the workshop, a woman who runs a local fine arts information website and works at the campus library and the communications director of the local food bank after she complimented me on my skirt. (I'm going to get a Valley Girl column out of that meeting).

I was good at my last job and enjoyed it, but this is MUCH more filling.
