CHiPs Magnet

Did I mention that Erik Estrada was on my flight from Dallas to Burbank?

He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but he's damn good looking in person--and looks like he hasn't aged since his Jon and Ponch days.

A couple of women approached him in baggage claim and he was all megawatt smiles with them. I saw another woman nudge her daughter to take a look at the real live 80s heartthrob before them. I imagine few under the age of 20 knew who he was.

I'm guessing the frequency of my celebrity sightings is going to drop once my home base is in Texas. Unless I start bumping into telenovela actors at the flea market in Pharr.

Panch! He meant so very much to this little Chicana watching TV out in white-on-white suburban Denver. I was so proud. But what ever happend to him after CHiPs?

He kinda disappeared for a while. I believe telenovelas revived his career in the Spanish speaking world and since then he's done English-speaking TV, TV/film cameos and product endorsements.

He was on a reality show--what's the one where past-their-prime celebrities live together? Oh, yeah. The Surreal Life on VH-1. Erik Estrada was on the same season as Tammy Faye Messner.

Oh, SWOON! I used to have tons of pictures of him that I'd cut out from magazines and pasted in a scrapbook. Yes, ladies, I didn't always go for the blonds.
