Mike was in St Louis over the weekend. I was supposed to meet him there (cue the Judy Garland tunes), but wound up staying home sick instead.
Sunday night, Mike took the kids out to eat and told them that we're getting married and there's a stepmom in their future. They were, of course, surprised but seemed to take it well. No fits pitched, though one daughter did say that him waiting until age 87 to remarry was an appropriate length of time. (She later reduced it to age 57).
Afterward, when Mike dropped off the kids, he also told his ex. She wanted to know when and said July seemed like it would be OK. Other than that, she had NO discernible reaction. Just kept putting groceries away. I guess that's good? Or should we brace for a possible delayed reaction?
Either way, it feels good to have everyone in the know. Four teenage stepkids. Wow. Now it's real.

Wow, what a relief! Who knows, there may be reactions for years to come. But at least know all involved parties can deal with them. I hope they move from this non-reaction to eventually loving having you in their family. In the long run, seeing how you make their dad happy will probably win them over. That's what I think.
I had to be the petty, snarky one, but are you inviting the ex to the wedding? Given all the hell she put Mike through, I'd be loathe to have her there, but maybe that's just me finally being bitter and angry about crappy people.
Otherwise, congrats! on finally being out! It's such a relief, I know. No more hiding!
Wasn't planning on inviting his ex to the wedding. Mike will have the 2 younger kids for 6 weeks this summer and the wedding will happen during that time.
It IS a relief! Mike's mom/my future MIL called me last night to say how glad she was that everything's in the open and how much their family likes me. Blush...
The kids reacted--surprise, jaw-dropping, No way!/Way! type stuff. It was the ex who literally had NO reaction--which surprised even Mike.
Maybe after seeing us at the basketball game, she saw the handwriting on the wall? Still, it kinda makes her seem like Data. I'm not sure what to make of it.
Loath, Janet, loath!!!! You can never BE loathe.
